Wakefield Shop Security Grant Scheme

Wakefield Council has dedicated over £200,000 as grants for security improvements for local business in Wakefield, Normanton, South Elmsall and Castleford.

Wakefield Council are encouraging high-street shops, and other local businesses to upgrade their security systems to combat anti-social behaviour and crime in the area. The Shop Security Grant Scheme of 2023 offers local businesses 80% of the cost of their security improvements up to £6,000.

Priority will be given to:

What is Included in the Wakefield Shop Security Scheme?

What Areas are Included in the Wakefield Shop Security Scheme?

Step 1
Contact Wakefield Council's City & Planning team to begin the application.
Step 2
You will discuss your plans and how the process works with a member of Wakefield Council's City and Towns team.
Step 3
A Project Manager will review your Expression of Interest. If it meets the criteria, you then need to submit a formal application. To do this, you will need:

- Proof of occupation or ownership of the property
- Any legally required permissions
- Proof you have the funds for your contribution to the cost
- At least two quotes for the proposed work

The Grants Panel will then make a decision. If your application is successful, you will get a formal offer. Then you will enter a contract with Wakefield Council.
Step 4
Get quotes for security improvements at your business premises. We suggest getting more than two quotes, but this is the minimum requirement for Wakefield Council for the Shops Security Grant Scheme.

The maximum amount available under the Wakefield Shops Security Scheme Grant is £6,000. The minimum is £3,750.

The Wakefield Shops Security Scheme Grant ends in March 2025, however all Expression of Interest forms must be in  by 31st of December 2024.
